BVetMed MSc PhD MRCVS
University of Liverpool, Institute of Infection and Global Health, UK
John graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2008 and embarked on a dairy internship at Michigan State University. He helped run a 5000 cow dairy and MSU’s mastitis diagnostic lab.
On returning to the UK he worked in livestock practice in the West Country, and completed a diploma in ruminant nutrition. He spent some time working as a consultant for a large pharmaceutical company, advising on on-farm infectious disease management and supporting pharmacovigilance investigations. During this time he completed his Masters in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health from the RVC.
In 2016 he embarked on a PhD with the National Institute of Health Research’s Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections at the University of Liverpool, in conjunction with Public Health England. He is investigating the development and evaluation of surveillance systems for zoonotic infections. He assists in teaching undergraduate veterinary students and facilitating journal clubs for the CertAVP.
Apart from his passion for cows and statistics, John lives up to the West Country stereotype and is a lifelong fan of Bath Rugby, and enjoys walking pub to pub along coastal paths.
