Indications

  • Active against certain gram-positive and negative organisms.
  • Not active against those that produce penicillinases, eg someE. coli  Escherichia coli  andStaphylococcus aureus  Staphylococcus spp  .
  • The more difficult gram-negative organisms (Pseudomonas spp  Pseudomonas spp  andKlebsiella spp) are usually resistant.

Interactions

with other drugs

Probenecid

  • Will decrease the renal tubular secretion of penicillin antibiotics Penicillamine and thus prolong their blood levels.

Aminoglycosides

  • Do not mix in the same syringe as aminoglycosides.
