• Urinary acidification increases excretion of basic substances and improves the antibacterial activity of hexamine, nitrofurantoin, penicillins and tetracyclines when these are used to treat urinary tract infections.
• Urinary acidification may reduce the effectiveness of aminoglycosides and erythromycin in bacterial urinary tract infections.
