  • Signs: depends on type of trauma.
  • Diagnosis: history and clinical signs; radiography, MRI, CT.

  • Prognosis: depends on extent of trauma.

Pathogenesis

Etiology

  • Trauma is often from falling as ferrets like to climb.
  • Falling is also common in ferrets living in flats.
  • Occasionally they are dropped as they often squirm when held. Head injury can also occur from being slammed in a door as they try to pop through.
  • Road traffic accidents are less common, but can cause fractures Fractures, pulmonary emphysema, and rupture of the spleen, ureter and urinary bladder, among others.
