Introduction

• Cause: trauma, often in conjunction with collateral ligament   Stifle: trauma - collateral ligament  and cruciate ligament   Stifle: trauma - cruciate ligament  injury to medial (most common) or lateral meniscus.
• Signs: moderate to severe lameness   Musculoskeletal: gait evaluation  , swelling of medial femorotibial joint capsule (medial or lateral)   Musculoskeletal: physical examination - adult  , pain on palpation and positive rear limb flexion test   Musculoskeletal: manipulative tests  .
• Diagnosis: radiography   Hindlimb: radiography  , arthroscopy   Joint: arthroscopy - overview  , ultrasonography   Ultrasonography: musculoskeletal  .
• Treatment: rest, arthroscopic debridement   Joint: arthroscopy - overview  ; anti-inflammatories, phenylbutazone   Phenylbutazone  , flunixin meglumine   Flunixin meglumine  , ketoprofen (USA)/vedaprofen (UK)   Ketoprofen  .
• Prognosis: depends on severity and other concurrently injured structures. Generally poor for return to performance.
