Taxonomy
- Phylum: Firmicutes.
- Class: Mollicutes.
- Order: Mycoplasmatales.
- Family: Mycoplasmataceae.
- Genus: Mycoplasma.
Distribution
- Putative pathogens which are thought to be mainly host specific, although there are many reports of Mycoplasma spp in abnormal hosts.
Significance
- Mycoplasmas that have been isolated from the horse include M. equirhinis, M. fastidiosum, M. equigenitalium, M. felis and M. subdolium.
- M. equigenitalium and M. felis are the main organisms where evidence of pathogenicity has been found.
