Wound: primary dressing
Introduction
- Dressings may be used for:
- Protection of surgical wounds.
- First aid.
- Management of open wounds.
Uses
- Protective 'cover' for surgical wounds.
- First aid prior to treatment, eg to control immediate hemorrhage, prevent further contamination of open wounds.
- Debridement of necrotic/sloughy wounds.
- Absorption of exudate or donation of moisture to provide a 'Moist Wound Healing' environment.
- Manage infection.
- Reduce pain.
- Maintenance of temperature.
Disadvantages
