Caudal draw movement test: stifle
Introduction
- To assess the instability of the stifle joint by attempting to subluxate the tibia caudally with respect to the femur.
Uses
- Caudal cruciate ligament insufficiency Stifle: caudal cruciate insufficiency.
Disadvantages
- It is rare to find this type of instability in the absence of other ligamentous damage.
- Often misinterpreted when in fact cranial cruciate ligament rupture Stifle: cranial cruciate ligament disease has occurred because test is begun when the tibia cranially subluxated as opposed to in a neutral position.
Alternative techniques
- Cranial draw test Stifle: cranial drawer test and tibial compression test Tibia: compression test assess cranial cruciate ligament integrity.
