Introduction

  • The first half of the Ortolani test Ortolani test - recognition of dorsal subluxation produced by pressure along femoral shaft.

Uses

Disadvantages

  • Some dogs with dysplastic hips do not show positive Ortolani sign, eg those with gross femoral head subluxation or luxation, or where joint instability no longer exist.
    Repeated Barlow manoeuvres can create instability.
  • The result cannot be used alone to confirm hip dysplasia.
