Synonym(s): 1,2-o-dilauryl-rac-glycero-3-glutaric acid-(6’-methylresorufin) ester

Overview

  • 1,2-o-dilauryl-rac-glycero-3-glutaric acid-(6'-methylresorufin) ester (DGGR) lipase activity increases in pancreatic inflammation.
  • Although not pancreas specific, DGGR lipase has a good correlation with Spec cPL and similar diagnostic yield for the diagnosis of pancreatitis.
  • Faster turnaround and less expensive than Spec cPL Canine pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity (cPli) test.

Tests

Methodologies

  • Colorimetric assay - measures the rate of dye formation yielded from the catalytic breakdown of DGGR by lipases.

Availability

  • Possible to be measured inhouse or in commercial laboratories.
  • Faster turnaround and less expensive than Spec cPL.

Validity

Sensitivity

  • 57% for the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis when a cut-off >245 IU/L was used (Lipase DC FS; DiaSys, Germany).
  • 93.3% for the diagnosis of pancreatitis when a cut-off of >120 IU/L was used (Coloripase; Nuclin Diagnostics Inc, Northbrook, IL USA).

Specificity

  • 100% for the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis when a cut-off >245 IU/L was used (Lipase DC FS; DiaSys, Germany).
  • 53% for the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis when a cut-off >120 IU/L was used (Coloripase; Nuclin Diagnostics Inc, Northbrook, IL USA).
  • High agreement between Spec cPL and DGGR lipase in the diagnosis of pancreatitis.
  • DGGR lipase results over reference intervals show high specificity for the diagnosis of pancreatitis (as long as clinical signs support the pancreatitis diagnosis). (However, DGGR values in dogs with intra-abdominal disease, eg GDV, IBD, have not been assessed.)
  • Note: Cortisol can lead to false positives in dogs with hypercortisolism (Linari et al, 2021).
