Indications

  • Management of type-II or non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) Diabetes mellitus where there is some residual insulin production.
  • In these cases it may be effective alone or administered with insulin to reduce insulin requirements.
  • Glipizide is ineffective when there is an absolute insulin deficiency (IDDM) or when insulin resistance is present.

Interactions

with other drugs

  • The effects of glipizide may be enhanced by ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, chloramphenicol, potentiated sulfonamides and fluoroquinolones.
  • Hypoglycemia may be increased by cimetidine administration.
