Chemical name

  • (EZ)-(RS)-1-methyl-2-nitro-3-(tetrahydro-3-furylmethyl)guanidine.
  • N-methyl-N'-nitro-N''-[(tetrahydro-3-furanyl)methyl]guanidine.

Physical properties

  • White crystalline solid.
  • Licensed product: pale yellow solution (Vectra 3D).

  • Does not require any special storage conditions (room temperature).

Indications

  • Kills adult fleas.
  • Prevents infestation for 1 month.
  • Can be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea allergic dermatitis Skin: flea bite hypersensitivity Skin: external parasite bite reaction.
  • Two licensed product containing dinotefuran plus:
    • For dogs, the insect growth regulator pyriproxyfen Pyriproxifen and the acaricide permethrin Permethrin.
    • Pyriproxyfen extends the effects on developing stages of fleas to 3 months.
    • Permethrin extends the activity of the product in dogs to include ticks.
