Interactions

with other drugs



Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Combination of NSAIDs and fluroquinolones in epileptic humans has been implicated in causing seizures.
Adsorbents and antacids
  • Drugs containing cations (Mg, Al) may bind to fluroquinolones preventing absorption from GI tract.
Sucralfate and zinc salts
  • May inhibit fluroquinolone absorption.
  • Separate doses of these drugs by at least 2 hours.
Theophylline
  • Fluroquinolones increase theophylline concentrations in plasma Theophylline.
Probencid
  • Blocks tubular secretion of fluroquinolones and may increase half-life and blood levels.
Nitrofurantoin
  • May impair quinolone activity if used concurrently to treat urinary tract infections Nitrofurans
