Physical properties

• White or almost white powder that is freely soluble in water and has a pKa of 7.1. Partition coefficient in octanol: water at pH 7.4 is 2.89.
• Supplied as an oromucosal gel formulation of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride provided in a 3 ml syringe at a concentration of 0.1 mg/ml. It has the appearance of a translucent green gel. It is designed for administration to dogs by their owners.

Storage requirements

• May be stored for 48 hours after withdrawal of the first dose.
• Keep the syringe in the carton to protect from light.
• Do not freeze.
