Indications

  • Management of: Cisapride has been withdrawn for use in humans in both the UK (July 2000) and USA. This decision follows reports of rare, but serious, ventricular arrhythmias (some fatal) suspected to be caused by the drug

Interactions

with other drugs

  • Opioid analgesics and antimuscarinics, eg atropine Atropine may antagonize cisapride's effects.
  • Fatal arrhythmia may be seen in conjunction with:
    • Erythromycin, clarythromycin, troleandomycin.
    • Itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole and miconazole.
  • Increases bioavailability of cyclosporine.
  • Increases absorption of aspirin, acetaminophen, diazepam, ethanol.
