  • Benazepril hydrochloride.
  • [S-(R,R)]-3-[[1-(Ethoxycarbonyl)-3-phenylpropyl]amino]-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2-oxo-1H-1-benzazepine-1-acetic acid.

Molecular formula

  • C24H28N2O5.

Storage requirements

  • Store in a dry place.
  • Unused half tablets should be stored in the open blister spaces inside the cardboard box.

Indications

  • Reduce afterload in cardiac insufficiency Heart: congestive heart failure.
  • Treatment of hypertension Hypertension.
  • May be of benefit in certain cases of renal insufficiency. Benazeprilat has significant hepatic metabolism, unlike enalaprilat, and may not require dose adjustment in renal failure.

Interactions

with other drugs

  • Concomitant use with potassium-sparing diuretics, eg spironolactone or potassium supplements may result in hyperkalemia.
  • Can be administered in combination with digoxin, diuretics and anti-arrhythmic drugs.
  • May be increased risk of nephrotoxicity when used with NSAIDs.
  • Use with other anti-hypertensive drugs, eg calcium channel and beta blockers could cause hypotension.
  • Anesthetics and sedative agents may potentiate hypotensive effects.
