Interactions

with other drugs

  • Other central nervous system (CNS) depressants (barbiturates [Pentobarbital] , opioids, anesthetics) may cause additive CNS depression.
  • Quinidine may cause additive cardiac depression.
  • Anti-diarrheal mixtures , eg kaolin/pectin , bismuth subsalicylate, and antacids may decrease gastrointestinal (GI) absorption of oral phenothiazine.
  • Propranolol : may increase blood levels of both drugs.
  • Epinephrine : may lead to unopposed beta activity hence vasodilation and tachycardia because phenothiazines block alpha-adrenergic receptors.
  • Phenytoin : metabolism may be decreased.
