• Chorionic gonadotrophin Chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG):
  • Similar effect to luteinzing hormone (LH).
  • Used to supplement or replace LH when ovulation failure or delay.
  • To improve libido and diagnose cryptorchid testis (NB not licensed for diagnosis).
• Occasionally used to treat cryptorchidism prior to castration with variable success.
• Serum gonadotrophin Serum gonadotrophin (eCG):
  • Effects similar to LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
  • Used to advance growth of follicle and ovulation.
  • In combination with hCG to induce estrus.
  • To promote spermatogenesis.
• hCG and eCG may become ineffective after repeated doses due to antibody formation.
