Appearance

  • Member of the buttercup family Helleborus.
  • Found in dry slopes, scrubs and open woods.
  • Up to 50 cm tall.
  • Thick branched stem.
  • Leaves:
    • 3-9 lobed.
    • Lower leaves stalked and up to 30 cm wide.
    • Upper leaves smaller.
    • Lanceolate and toothed.
  • Flowers:
    • March-April.
    • 1-2 cm wide.
    • In panical formation.
    • Drooping and globular.
    • With 5 petal-like formations.
  • Fruits: 2 cm long.
