• There is much confusing terminology in the literature regarding congenital liver diseases of dogs and cats. Currently recognized diseases are as follows:
  • 1. Congenital portosystemic shunt (see separate topic on CPSS Congenital portosystemic shunt (CPSS) ).
  • 2. Primary hypoplasia of the portal vein (PHPV).
