Introduction

  • Embryological anomaly.
  • Cause: cystic dilation of portion of ureter running intramurally within bladder wall.
  • Signs: leads to narrow ureteric opening/urine pressure builds up/bulging of bladder mucosa.
  • Associated with ectopic ureter Ureter: ectopic.
  • Can cause dysuria.
  • Diagnosis: radiography, ultrasonography.
  • Treatment:surgical drainage.
  • Prognosis:guarded if symptomatic.

Pathogenesis

Etiology

  • Embryological anomaly: cystic dilation of portion of ureter running within bladder wall → ureteric opening/urine pressure build up/bulging of bladder mucosa.

Pathophysiology

  • May be associated with other congenital urinary tract abnormalities.

Timecourse

  • Usually recognized in young animal if symptomatic.
