Endocrine: metabolic derangement



  • Cause: may be naturally occurring or iatrogenic, eg hypoadrenocorticism (post-treatment for hyperadrenocorticism) or hypoparathyroidism (post-surgery for hyperthyroidism):
  • Signs: depends on underlying endocrinopathy.
  • Diagnosis: signs, laboratory data, specific endocrine function tests.
  • Treatment: specific to underlying cause.
  • Prognosis: good if underlying endocrinopathy is resolved.
