Introduction

  • Young, between 3 and 30 months old (average 18 months).
  • Insidious onset.
  • Cause: possiblyMycoplasma spumans,Streptococci, autoimmune disease.
  • Signs: vary from mild lameness to severe, debilitating joint disease with erosions, reluctance to move, pain on joint examination, increased body temperature, problem may affect one joint initially then move to other joints.
  • Tendon sheaths in the region of the joints may also be inflamed.
