Clinical Effects

Epidemiology

Habitat

  • Bacteria found in intestine of asymptomatic carrier animals eg rodents and rabbits, which contaminate the environment.

Transmission

  • Oral infection assumed.

Pathological effects

  • Tyzzer's disease:
    • Lethargy.
    • Depression.
    • Anorexia.
    • Jaundice.
      Often fatal.
  • Liver most commonly involved:
    • Swollen.
    • Multiple areas of hepatocellular necrosis.
    • Iinfiltrates of neutrophils and mononuclear cells.
  • Necrotising enterocolitis.

  • Avoid contact with environment contaminated by rodents.
