Introduction

General information

  • Descended from black and tan ratting terriers of 19th century, used in rat pits of that time.
  • When the cropped-ears tradition was banned in the UK in 1898, the breed lost much of its support, but cropping has remained optional in the US.
  • Today's Manchester Terriers may have naturally erect ears, cropped ears or button ears.
  • Typically wary of strangers but a devoted house dog.
  • Tend to gray as it matures.
