Introduction

General information

  • Originated in Germany as a companion dog, was specifically bred to resemble a lion by crossing the Newfoundland, Pyrenean Mountain Dog and St. Bernard.
  • A gentle giant and wonderful swimmer even in the coldest of climates, its size makes it unsuitable to the urban environment.
  • Good with other dogs and easily obedience trained, they thrive in colder climates.
  • Not a good watch dog and the smooth, dense coat requires very regular grooming.
