Introduction

General information

  • Originated in Germany as a companion dog.
  • Smallest of 3 sizes, the giant, standard and toy.
  • Although not always easy to obedience train, once trained they make good companions.
  • Confident, refined and elegant, they are also good guard dogs.
  • Suitable for the urban environment, although not hotter climates.
  • Some do not like being groomed which is a problem as regular grooming is required to prevent the dense coat from matting.
  • Males are sometimes not good with other dogs or strangers.
