Introduction

General information

  • Fundamentally a working dog, the Coonhound is one of the hardiest and adaptable of dog breeds.
  • Worked principally for trailing and treeing raccoon, although the breed is also used to hunt deer and bear.
  • Powerful, agile and alert, the Coonhound requires a great deal of exercise, and is not best suited to life as a pet.
  • Even-tempered and outgoing, the Coonhound is usually very friendly towards people and other dogs.
