Introduction

General information

  • The American Eskimo did not descend from working sled dogs, but has been bred mainly for companionship.
  • In the early 1900s, the American Eskimo Dog was particularly popular with circus performers, and even performed tricks such as tightrope walking!
  • This breed makes a great companion, having a loving, intelligent, and generally friendly temperament.
  • Requires regular grooming, as it has a thick, double coat that is particularly dense around the neck (more so in dogs).
