Introduction

  • The female reproductive tract can be simply thought of as the ovaries plus a series of tubes :
    • Vagina.
    • Cervix.
    • Uterus.
    • Oviduct.
  • Each tube is characterized by having four concentric layers that look similar in cross section between all the different structures:
    • The serosa (outer layer).
    • Muscularis.
    • Submucosa.
    • Mucosa (inner layer).
  • The ovaries produce the female gamete as well as a number of hormones.
