Foot and mouth disease
Foot and Mouth (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease which can affect all cloven hooved animals. It's endemic in several parts of Asia, most of Africa and the Middle East. It remains endemic in some Latin America countries. In the UK it is a notifiable disease and occurs rarely. The most significant recent outbreak was in 2001, but a smaller outbreak also occurred in 2007.
