James qualified from The Royal Dick Veterinary College, UK in 1977. He then spent time in mixed general practice before returning to Edinburgh to study for a master’s degree. James became lecturer, and then Professor, of Canine Medicine, in the Division of Veterinary Clinical Studies, where he was head of the Internal Medicine Service. In 2011 he started his own clinical practice. He was awarded the BSAVA Blaine Award for outstanding contributions to small animal medicine and a Winston Churchill Fellowship. James’ areas of expertise include gastroenterology, endoscopy, colonoscopy and complex internal medicine cases.
