Bio
Lisa Whitfield is a veterinarian with over 12 years clinical experience. This includes 8 years working as a clinical large animal veterinarian at Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where she initially completed an Equine Internship followed by 7.5 years in the Production Animal Clinic, working closely alongside boarded specialists. She is currently self-employed, working in a small production animal practice. Lisa has a wealth of experience with all farm animal species having worked with Cattle, Sheep, Goats, Pigs and South American Camelids (Alpaca and Llama) on a day to day basis.
She has a passion for teaching practical skills to people and sharing knowledge. Her masters thesis was a comparison of the use of long acting and short acting dry cow therapy in a herd where teat sealants were used.
She has published a number of both scientific articles and educational articles. Since early in 2020 I have written a monthly educational column for the New Zealand Dairy Exporter.
In addition to veterinary work, she also works on a working dairy farm. This experience continues to remind her of the practical realities of all aspects of farm life, and has had a positive impact on her approach to animal health work on farms.
