Etymology

  • Gk:campylo- curved;bacter- rod;jejuni- of the jejunum.

Distribution

  • Worldwide.

Significance

  • Intestinal tract commensal in poultry, dogs, cats, sheep, cats, monkeys, goats, rabbits and cattle.
  • Causes abortion in sheep, and enteritis in dogs, cats, other animals and man.
  • Causes avian vibrionic hepatitis.
  • Cause of food poisoning in humans.
