Bio

Allan was born of farming parents in what is now known as Zimbabwe. He obtained an agriculture degree in what is now the University of Kwazulu-Natal. After some time travelling and working in agriculture including farming cotton and wheat, he completed a veterinary degree at the University of Edinburgh. He continued to work in the UK before returning to Zimbabwe to set up a practice in Mvurwi in rural northern Zimbabwe. The agricultural instability of the country encouraged a move to Australia via the UK and Beijing.

Allan obtained the MANZCVS in horse medicine and animal reproduction in 2002 and 2006 respectively, before becoming a diplomate ACT via the alternate route in 2008. In 2013 he was registered as a specialist in theriogenology with the RCVS in the UK, and in 2014 with the AVBC in Australasia. In 2012 his academic career began at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.

Allan is research active and has published on a variety of topics mainly in the field of reproduction. He has presented at national and international conferences including the ANZCVS, and the Society for Theriogenology in the USA. He is supervising a DipACT and DVStud student at CSU and involved in mentoring other ACT candidates from around the world. He is clinically active and teaches students in the theriogenology and production animal departments as well as coordinating extra mural placements in clinical and preclinical student rotations. He has a passion for theriogenology and for passing this information on to the next generation of veterinary professionals.
