- The normal cat kidney is very pale compared with that of the dog. This is often mistaken for a disease process. The cat kidney has prominent stellate veins on its cortical surface.
- Normal dog kidney. Cortex and medulla are easily distinguished on the cut surface. The cut ends of the blood vessels are seen at the corticomedullary junction.
