- Amongst cats, the Persian and other brachycephalic breeds are reportedly prone to proptosis. Domestic shorthaired cats may also be affected, as in this case.
- In the majority of cases the displacement of the eye arises as a result of trauma and the degree of displacement is usually proportional to the degree of trauma.
- Constriction of the eyelids behind the globe, together with the associated orbital edema can make replacement of the globe difficult. In such cases, a lateral canthotomy may be necessary.
