  1. Amongst cats, the Persian and other brachycephalic breeds are reportedly prone to proptosis. Domestic shorthaired cats may also be affected, as in this case.
  2. In the majority of cases the displacement of the eye arises as a result of trauma and the degree of displacement is usually proportional to the degree of trauma.
  3. Constriction of the eyelids behind the globe, together with the associated orbital edema can make replacement of the globe difficult. In such cases, a lateral canthotomy may be necessary.
