- Genus: Campylobacter.
- Used to be placed in the genus Vibrio.
- Species: jejuni.
Etymology
- Greek: campylo - curved; bacter - rod; jejuni - of the jejunum.
Distribution
- Worldwide.
Significance
- Intestinal tract commensal in poultry, dogs, cats, sheep, cats, monkeys, goats, rabbits and cattle.
- Causes:
- Abortion in sheep, and rarely in goats and cattle.
- Enteritis in dogs, cats, other animals and man.
- Avian vibrionic hepatitis.
