Liver: congestion - ultrasound
- The characteristic granular appearance of the liver can be seen.
- A branching hepatic vessel is seen.
- This has a diameter of approximately 0.5cm which is subjectively enlarged.
- Ascitic fluid is also present.
- Assessment of enlargement of the hepatic vein is subjective but concurrent findings which help diagnose hepatic congestion include ascites, caudal vena cava enlargement and right-sided heart failure.
