Kidney: hydronephrosis - VD abdomen IVU

= annotation - select to reveal
  1. Normal right kidney showing nephrogram and pyelogram (subjectively very slightly enlarged - ?compensatory hypertrophy).
  2. No normal left kidney seen; instead a smooth, rounded mass larger than a normal kidney and with only a rim of contrast uptake. This suggests severe hydronephrosis in which the renal parenchyma has been grossly thinned by a massively dilated pelvis.
  3. No evidence of pelvic trauma to cause mechanical obstruction of ureter. In this cat the cause of the unilateral hydronephrosis was not established.
  4. Presence of feces shows inadequate preparation of patient prior to IVU.
