Film faults: solarization

  1. Solarization can occur in extreme cases of over exposure  Film faults: over exposure and/or over development.
  2. If a film reaches the maximum possible density (blackening), known as Dmax, further exposure or developement will result in the density decreasing.
  3. This is demonstrated here by the fact that thinner areas of bone appear whiter than thicker areas ie the image is reversed - positive rather than negative
