  1. The septal defect is seen as a loss of continuity in the septum.
  2. There is left atrial enlargement.
  3. The defect is most commonly seen just below the aortic valve on the right parasternal view.
  4. The closed aortic valve is seen as an echogenic structure with two cusps visualized.
  5. Poor contact between the transducer and the skin surface is producing horizontal lines on the image.
