  1. Lateral thoracic projection of a normal cat.
  2. Cats vary in size much less than dogs and cardiac dimensions are more standard.
  3. The craniocaudal width of the heart is measured and this dimension is compared to the rib spaces.
  4. In the normal cat the heart should be no more than 2 rib spaces wide.
  5. A VHS score has also been developed for the cat.
