General information

  • Originally from Japan and bred in the USA since 1968.
  • Comes in both Shorthair and Longhair varieties.
  • Although some were imported to the UK there do not appear to be any bred here at present.
  • Not recognized by GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy).
  • Quiet and friendly.
  • Needs regular grooming.

Size

  • Medium.

Build

  • Long and lean.
  • Has a very short tail, usually carried upright, with a pom-pom of hair.

Hair quality

  • Medium-short or long.

Colors

  • White, black, blue, red, cream, black tortie and blue-cream.
  • Eyes to harmonize with coat color.

Patterns

  • Self, tabby, bi- and tri-color.

Disease predisposition

  • Not known.
