Pathogenesis

Etiology

  • Unknown.

Pathophysiology

  • Lymphosarcoma as a generalized disease and may invade the skeleton.
  • Lymphoma may metastasize particularly to the vertebra.
  • The invading tumor causes osteolytic lesions.
  • One report found a lobulated firm, light tan mass occupying the body of the lumbar vertebra:
    • The mass had invaded the bone marrow, adjacent bone, muscles and vertebral canal.
    • The bone was fractured Fractures.
    • The mass was a poorly demarcated and unencapsulated mass of neoplastic plasma cells.
    • The adjacent bone was necrotic and in some areas replaced by fibrous connective tissue.
    • A cystic bone lesion in the proximal humerus with a non-supporting lameness of the foreleg was also reported.
    • Lytic masses have been noted in various bones.
