Amara graduated from the University of Florida in the US. Following graduation she completed an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Tennessee. Amara undertook a residency at Cornell and became a Diplomate in Veterinary Internal Medicine, subspeciality of Cardiology. She is a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist and is currently Professor of Cardiology and the Associate Chair for Instruction in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida. Her research interests include cardiomyopathies and interprofessional education.
