Navicular bursa: block - centesis 01

  1. Local anaesthetic is infiltrated underneath the skin in the midline of the palmar distal aspect of the pastern joint above the coronary band.
  2. With the horse weight-bearing on a wooden block, a 2-3 inch 18G needle is inserted into the midline just above the palmar coronary band and advanced slowly inwards until the navicular bursa is entered.
  3. A lateromedial radiograph is about to be taken to confirm the needle position.
