- The final layer of the bandage from elbow to foot is a firmly applied non-elastic bandage.
- The Robert Jones bandage should make a sound like a ripe water melon when flicked with a finger if applied correctly.
- External splints can be applied to strengthen the bandage and increase its rigidity. In this distal radial fracture the board splints are applied laterally and cranially to the forearm and cannon and held in place by a non-elasticated bandage (elastoplast or carpet tape). Note these splints should be longer distally if possible.
