PIP joint: osteochondrosis - LM radiograph

= annotation - select to reveal
  1. A lateromedial radiograph of the right hind proximal interphalangeal joint of a TB colt foal that presented with a swelling associated with the pastern joint of the right hind limb.
  2. Extensive new bone formation on the dorsodistal aspect of the proximal phalanx.
  3. New bone formation and mineralization on the dorsoproximal aspect of the middle phalanx - this is quite advanced and seems to be attempting to bridge the proximal PIP joint and create ankylosis.
  4. Subchondral lysis of the distal end of the proximal phalanx which was later diagnosed as osteochondrosis of the PIP joint causing severe degenerative joint disease.
