Eyelid: temporary tacking sutures for entropion
Introduction
- Entropion in young dogs often corrects itself during growth.
- Temporary eversion of affected eyelid(s) eliminates trichiasis during this period, therefore reducing irritation and the risk of corneal ulceration. It also relieves the spastic entropion component.
- Lembert type sutures are easy to place and the procedure is quick.
Uses

correction in puppies. - Relief of spastic entropion caused by a painful corneal ulcer in a dog of any age.
Advantages
- Simple and quick to perform.
- If performed early, eg 2-4 weeks old in Shar Pei Chinese Shar Pei , may save more extensive surgery later.
- Facilitates healing of any corneal ulcers Ulcerative keratitis that are being complicated by trichiasis.
Disadvantages
- The sutures may become dislodged early, through self-trauma or rapid growth.
Alternative techniques
- Hotz-Celsus procedure Eyelid: Hotz-Celsus procedure for entropion.

- A few minutes - depending on number of sutures required.

Criteria for choosing test
- Young puppies (<5 months) with entropion that is causing trichiasis.
- Spastic entropion in animals of all ages.
